"Gallbladder removal"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Day Surgery Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Theatre & Recovery

(as the patient),

Flash back to last year. 16 weeks pregnant and convinced I am having a heart attack, check out at hospital reveals its gallstones.. due to pregnancy we decided it was best to treat it conservatively to minimise risk to the little one.

Beautiful baby arrives in October and this pain of a gallbladder that has made me miss many special events has to go.

Due to covid I did have to wait longer than usual but this is to be expected.

Day of operation- I arrive into day surgery and treated brilliantly Stephanie the nurse who was doing my paperwork made me feel at ease .

Then I met the surgeons and again they made me feel at ease and we had a few laughs.....which really did help.

I met Alistair the anaesthetist who was amazing and he made me laugh and reassured me that he was going to look after me.

I get taken to theatre and again there are amazing staff who work here. Tracey who has the biggest smile even under her mask was so nice and funny. I then went to get my anaesthetic and this bit always freaks me out and I get emotional...the reassurance from Tracey, Lucy and Alistair meant i didn't cry....too much.

Then I wake up in recovery, in pain, but not for long as those post op drugs worked a treat.

I then get moved to recovery in day surgery where I have annalise (dont think that's the right spelling) and Margaret. Looking after me.

I am a terrible patient i just wanted to get up and go...but was encouraged to try and sleep .

After a few hours and some amazing tea and toast I could go home. Where I am now recovering.

When i got home and thought about it, I realised that not only do we have amazing, funny, crazy staff working in the NHS, you would never be able to tell that they have probably had some really rough days .

I had to write this loonnngggg story because our NHS deserve to be recognised for the amazing work they do, and for the amazing support they give their patients.

So thank you to everyone involved in my care at Forthvalley Royal Hospital . The experience made me proud to be a patient but also proud to be a nurse.

Thank you so much for taking the time to send in your feedback. It's never nice to require surgery, but I'm pleased that the people you met on the day, were able to ease some of the stress of it all for you. I hope you are recovering well.

I will pass your message on to the theatre team. After the events of the last year, I'm sure they will be thrilled to read it.

Best wishes,

Martyn Hawkins
