After experiencing massive pain for 2 months, I had seen my GP multiple times (with multiple doctors, I've been passed around) over those 2 months I was referred to get an ultrasound for abdominal pain. My doctor had directed the radiologist to give me an external ultrasound but the radiologist didn't find anything. Thank goodness the radiologist offered me an extra internal scan or she wouldn't have found the mass in my womb.
The radiologist at New Stobhill Hospital was very helpful and advised my GP on the same day that I should see a gynaecologist. My doctor sent an urgent referral and said it could be a 4 week wait. It has been over 10 weeks (on top of the 8 weeks it took to diagnose a very common health problem in women) and I haven't had any communication from the hospital about my appointment. My GP has told me to call the switchboard at Royal Infirmary to check the waiting records, which I've done but all they can tell me is that I'm on the waiting list and they can't tell me how long I'll wait. Not so helpful!
I feel like I've been kept in the dark about my health, as the GP or hospital hasn't reached out to update me on how long my wait will be. I understand the NHS is under a lot of pressure and I feel like my life has been put on hold waiting on a neverending waiting list. I am also concerned that as a woman, cysts are common and yet, it was not one of the first health concerns the GP brought to my attention. If the radiologist hadn't offered me the extra scan, I would have been passed around the GP again.
