"Premature menopause/ perimenopause/ menopause"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as the patient),

Struggled for a year to get a premature menopause diagnosis and treatment.

Had to undergo worrying, stressful & invasive procedures such as endoscopy, colonoscopy, cancer tests, HIV tests, MRI, CT scan, and around 30 other tests. Never once did my GP discuss the possibility of menopause. There are over 32 recognised symptoms related to menopause/peri menopause- according to NICE guidelines.

Should this not be mandatory training, given the huge number of menopausal women in the workforce.

I had to end up going private for healthcare as i was let down by my practice. I was also given anti depressants (I’m not depressed! I need hormones!). They severely disagreed with me and the health centre would not prescribe the combined pill after 2 bio identical HRT treatments did not help me in the end up. I had to pay £150 for a private appointment and they actually gave me the prescription I needed!!!

Dear disappointed and angry 37

Thank you very much for sharing your feedback on Care Opinion. I was very sorry to read of the difficulties you have encountered with your GP practice, namely the delays in getting a diagnosis and treatment plan for your condition. I can fully appreciate how upsetting and frustrating this has been.

Please be advised that GP’s are independent contractors and are responsible for investigating and responding to any concerns a person may have about their service; they are not registered to respond directly to feedback through Care Opinion. I would therefore invite you to contact the Practice Manager if you would like a direct response about the service you experienced.

Kind regards.

Lesley
