"Patient Transport Issues :NHS Scotland NHSGGC"

About: New Victoria Hospital / X-rays and scans Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Xrays and Scans Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service

(as the patient),

A couple of weeks ago I received a letter advising I had an appointment for a Bone Scan at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow at 14:30 but this was changed to 11:30 so I could apply for Patient Transport .When I phoned to arrange transport I was told no other patients would be getting picked up by my vehicle and I had to be ready at 08:00 hrs. When I questioned why I had to be ready so early no reason was forthcoming but I was advised to phone the day before my appointment when I should get a more specific time.

I phoned the day before the appointment but was told I had to be ready for 08:00 but no specific time for pickup and no reason given why this arrangement was in place. The conversation turned in to a bit of an argument so I said to cancel the transport.

I then had to cancel the appointment for the scan

My questions to NHS GGC are

(1) Why is patient transport only available in mornings?

(2) Why are patients told to be ready at 08:00 hrs when the hospital appt't is several hours later and no other patients are being picked up?

(3) Why does The New Victoria not have Bone Scanning facilities...after all they have ultrasound scans,x- rays and MRI Scans and I can be there in about 4 minutes.

Dear Molley

Thank you for your Feedback in relation to Patient Transport Service. I am very sorry to hear of the issues you have experienced. I would be more than happy to have this matter fully looked into for you, and hopefully offer some reassurance for any upcoming appointments you may have.

Please may I ask you email our Feedback team at sas.feedback@nhs.scot, with your name, address and the date of when you called for transport. It would also be extremely helpful if you made reference to your CareOpinion username which will enable us to easily link to this story.

I look forward to hearing from you

Kind Regards

Lesley

Dear Molley,

Thank you very much for your feedback in relation to your experience in getting to your bone scanning appointment.

I apologise that we don't have a facility near you that can carry out this procedure however we currently have 7 sites that can accommodate bone scanning appointments. These are hospital sites that can support the appropriate equipment on site and also have the specific staff to be able to carry out these scans. We understand that not all specific locations for certain procedures are in close proximity to patients however we do attempt to take into account the patients address when making appointments.

If you would like us to investigate further the appointment that was made for you and the location please let me know by contacting me via my email address Heather.Richardson2@ggc.scot.nhs.uk.

Kind Regards

Heather Richardson
