My son went for a pre-op last week to get some teeth out, and we were just waiting for an onward referral to Glasgow for another appointment. However yesterday he damaged one of the teeth and it snapped in half leaving part of the tooth in the gum - he’s nearly 2, it was very dramatic, I was completely freaking out.
I couldn’t get an appointment with our usual dentist (covid), so phoned the reception of Public Dental Health (at Falkirk community hospital) for the pre-op to say things had gotten worse and I really didn’t know what to do. I spoke to the receptionist (about half 1) who was so lovely even though I was talking a million miles an hour and probably rambling completely irrelevantly, she got his details, found who we’d seen and said she’d email them because she wasn’t in yesterday. But then when I told her what had actually happened, she paused and went ‘forget that, here’s an appointment for tomorrow afternoon and I’ll still email, but we need to get him in.’ And it was so appreciated to have someone actually help and do something that actively made things better.
I’d have been happy with the email and he would probably have still been seen today, but when it was overnight and this morning and he was sore and the calpol wasn’t working it was just a weight off my mind to know he had an appointment and he’d be getting seen and not sitting around waiting for a phone call and being prepared to drop everything and go to an appt whenever it may be (or struggle through another night if there wasn’t an appt!)
"An incredibly helpful receptionist"
