I wanted to share how wonderful our community midwife - Jamie - was during the pregnancy of our baby boy. Right from the start she put us at ease with her friendly, down to earth manner, good sense of humour and obvious experience...she never made us feel rushed and patiently answered all of our (many) questions as we navigated our way through the pregnancy and prepared our birth plan. If Elgin had a consultant unit, we definitely would have had a home birth so we could have maintained that continuity of care from Jamie or her colleagues in the Cullen/Buckie midwife team.
Jamie helped us carefully assess the risks and benefits of the home birth (which we decided against due to the length of potential emergency transfer time) and she connected us with other healthcare staff to discuss our options for midwife-led units in the region. Following the birth of our boy, it was a joy to see Jamie again and we were very sad to say goodbye after our 10 days were up! Our experience demonstrates how building a good relationship with your midwife during pregnancy helps to alleviate anxiety and make you feel supported as you prepare for birth and after. Jamie is an absolute credit to the profession and we feel very lucky to have had her!
"Fantastic community midwife"
