"Attitude on reception"

About: General practices in Lothian

(as the patient),

When calling my GP about telephone appointments and reviews of tests etc, I was unaware of the time to call. When I last called about results the staff member I spoke to (who didn't give a name) barked that I should call back after 10am and hung up. I then called back because I had also wanted to book a telephone call with a GP, and the same person spoke to me. The tone was abrupt and rude, simply asking my name, D.O.B., Best number to call on, before saying that someone would call back and hanging up - no idea which doctor I'd speak to, no goodbye... I appreciate that Covid has an impact, but patients could be calling for any reason - and calls like that could deter patients from calling at all.

Dear vyviren43

Thank you very much for getting in touch with us via Care Opinion.

I am sorry that you had a difficult conversation with the reception staff from your GP practice when phoning for your results and to make an appoinment.

The vast majority of GPs are independent contractors and as such this feedback should be directed to the Practice Manager who I am sure would want to hear of your difficulties.

With kind regards

Jeannette
