"Invaluable in our community"

About: District Nursing / District Nursing - Larne

(as a service user),

Beneficial to have a well equipped local GP surgery in the village. Positive experience with district nursing team. They are invaluable in our community. The district nurses provide a great service to the elderly and housebound.

My father in law benefits from their services at present, allowing him to remain at home and saves him from having to attend the surgery for his regular blood tests. They have provided him with any equipment he might need at home. He also benefits from support from the sensory support team who have assisted us in helping to keep him at home giving invaluable advice re aids for the home and allowing him to keep some independence.

We live in a rural area and find it very difficult to access carers for him. There seems to be a shortage of carers services for this area. Social services are doing what they can but there is a very limited number of carers for this community so this area would greatly benefit from increased funding and staff to enable him and other elderly people to maintain their independence and stay in their own homes.

Dear Authenticqd57,

My name is Glynis Whittle, I am the Community Area Manager in Newtownabbey and the Lead nurse for the East Antrim Locality. Thank you so much for taking the time to share such positive comments about the Larne District Nursing team. It is very reassuring that you recognise how the elderly and housebound benefit from this service. I am also delighted to hear that your father in law has been very well supported to remain safe at home to maintain his independence.I will make sure this feedback is shared with the team and let them know how much their support is appreciated.

Although I am responding on behalf of District Nursing services I plan to liaise with my colleague in Social Work and I will endeavor to have a response from them soon.

Kind regards

Glynis
