"Left waiting in the emergency department"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

Attended the emergency department but was a GP expected patient. Waited in the waiting room for 6 hours, while A&E patients were being seen well before me.

I felt left to wait. Not seen by triage nurse. Thought I was getting worse.  Asked to speak to a senior nurse and was told be grateful that you are not an ortho patient, you would be longer. This is surely not the way to treat patients, no matter what’s wrong with them.

This waiting room felt so unsafe. I’m surprised this hospital doesn’t have more deaths or incidents related to waiting. Accident waiting to happen.

Dear Bridie33

I would like to thank you for sharing your experience within the Accident & Emergency

department here at University Hospital Wishaw.

I am sorry to hear of your issues, this is clearly not the standard of care and

communication that we aspire to and I can only apologise for that.

It would be helpful if you could contact my Patient Affairs colleagues so that we can understand the issues in more detail, so that your feedback can be reflected on by staff and a review of practice be taken to avoid this happening in the future.

You can contact them on Telephone number 01698 366558

kind regards

Jean
