"Day case for bladder cancer procedure"

About: Grantham & District Hospital / Urology Lincoln County Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

Admitted mid April as a day case on Ward 2 at Grantham for a further TURBT as part of ongoing bladder cancer treatment as a tumour had recurred. This was my 3rd TURBT & the previous 2 were performed at Lincoln, where I also underwent several infusions of BCG treatment since first diagnosed with a G3 NMI bladder cancer. The medical staff at Lincoln have all been marvellous over the last couple of years during my treatment.

At Grantham Excellent care from brilliant, professional & friendly nursing staff who went out of their way to be kind, took time to explain things & what I should do to help myself.

The anaesthetist & team was marvellous & the anaesthetist especially as took time to explain the pro's & con's of spinal anaesthesia & chatted to me throughout the procedure. I found this very helpful & re-assuring.

The surgeon was also most excellent as took time to re-assure me & explain the procedure & need for it. He was also kind & understanding on his ward visit after the procedure by re-assuring me he & the staff were always there for the patient & happy to explain anything that I needed clarifying. Overall I felt almost like a VIP.

Dear IainKB

Thank you for taking the time to post this as it really is such a morale boost for all of the staff to hear that you felt so well cared for from the ward to theatre staff. We really appreciate this and I am so pleased you felt strongly enough about your treatment to write in to us

You have been through a lot from reading the history of hospital

Admissions but hopefully now on the road to full recovery

We have all had a very difficult year but the trust strived to make the site a green site to continue with the cancer surgery and this has proved it was definitely the right decision for the patients and special thanks to our managing director who supported the decision from the onset to make it work

Thanks again for this and we have shared it with all of the staff who are the best team ever

Kr

Julie

Update posted by IainKB (the patient)

Hello Ward Manager Julie & thank you for responding as I know you & all the staff are busy, busy, busy.

It is possible I will see you again at Grantham ( or Lincoln) as my diagnosis / biopsy refers to a Grade 3 tumour, so likely to recur, but with people like you & all the other medical staff what do I have to worry about?!!

I would also say you are all much more appreciated than you will ever know because many people, for whatever reasons, do not put things into writing but do think well of the NHS & treatment & care we all get from you.

Keep up the good work & thank you once again.

Maybe the notice below will make you all smile?
