"ENT Disappointment"

About: Victoria Hospital / Ear, Nose & Throat

(as the patient),

At the start of 2020, I noticed a lump at the back of my throat that increased to more lumps on either side as lockdown began. Contacting the dentists they gave me an emergency appointment (due to lump risks and cancer) and advised they literally had no idea what these lumps were and why they were there. They referred me as an emergency to the ENT department at Victoria Hospital.

In the waiting period my lumps increased - now 2 on 1 side, 1 on the other, and were growing. My neck (at the front) was sore and my throat itself constantly felt red raw. When my appointment arrived (it was quick so commendations for that) I attended and pandemic protocols were amazing. I was taken in to see one consultant who asked the normal questions - did I have pain, had the lumps changed, etc and the answer was yes and yes. Nothing I did stopped the pain and stopped the lumps from increasing.

The ENT checked my neck and did the scope and advised that they would refer me for an MRI. When the MRI day arrived they told me it was with dye (the consultant hadn't mentioned this but I was fine with it).  After the scan, I requested my medical notes from the ENT/Scanning department because I personally keep check of my own file. I was gutted to find that the ENT consultant had not told the truth! They had followed the protocol for checking lumps (cancer risk protocol) and had said there was 'no' pain and that there had been 'no' change! I made it clear as did the dentist that what was 1 lump had now grown to 3 lumps and by the time I got my medical file had become way worse - clear changes were happening. My pain increased, I still have so much pain.

The MRI was not too clear as my filling affected it. It did show C4-C5 degenerative changes (was this why I felt more pain?) Long story short the ENT then wrote out to me to say 'when someone feels like they have something trapped in their throat, I suggest they drink more water' WHAT! I am/was furious! Drink more water.

My day is now massaging my neck (possibly the lymph nodes, who knows, or just inflammation) squeezing the back of my mouth so the lumps exude pus (gross I know and so very sore), and trying to keep the infection underhand as the lumps at the back of the throat exude on their own and then cause my tonsils to literally bleed!) My lumps are not 'on' my tonsils but on my gag reflex behind in the soft tissue part.

Absolutely furious that because this doctor doesn't know what these are and how to fix them, their suggestion is to drink more water - when water is ALL I drink. This is why coming to the Victoria Hospital literally gives me anxiety as this consultant does not seem to know how to handle patients correctly or just say they have no idea how to resolve something.
