"Bowel cancer"

About: Kettering General Hospital / Colorectal surgery

(as a service user),

I recently had bowel cancer surgery at Kettering General Hospital.   The initial colonoscopy was performed promptly   (and three weeks quicker than it would have been at my usual hospital of Northampton) and the team there were efficient and informative.   They were very helpfully able to arrange CT scan that same day.

About three weeks later I met my surgeon (Mr Kelkar) who explained the proposed treatment clearly and was able to arrange blood tests that same day.   Only two weeks later I was scheduled for surgery which was completed successfully and my husband was informed straight away of the outcome.

I was on Geddington Ward for three days where the nursing and auxiliary staff were all very caring and kind.   The ward was an excellent facility with a private en-suite room.   Mr Kelkar and his team in surgery were unfailingly informative, helpful and supportive and I went into the operation feeling confident and relaxed.   Since then follow up has been excellent both face to face and remotely.

My only suggestion for improvement would be admin at Kettering GH as I did not receive any discharge papers either after the colonoscopy or operation.
