When I first went into Aberdeen Maternity Hospital I was convinced I wasn't coping well and wouldn't be far along. With my other pregnancies I always waited until my waters had broken before going in but this time I reached a point near midnight where I felt I couldn't cope at home any longer. Upon arrival and examination I was 6cm dilated with waters intact, I tend to progress quickly so was happy to be taken into a delivery room. I met my midwife Rachel who stayed with me through out my delivery. Roughly 1hr 30mins later my daughter made her appearance into the world, with my waters having broken just minutes before. Rachel was so considerate, caring and responsive the whole time. I instantly felt at ease in her presence. When things started to become clear that my placenta was being stubborn, I fully trusted Rachel's professional knowledge to help me. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond anyone's control I had a retained placenta which needed removal in theatre, and I was having a post partum hemorrhage. The sister in charge of the ward was fantastic in making sure I knew what was going on and why the whole time. Having never had anything to this extent happening in previous pregnancies and things happenings so quickly it was a lot to take on board. Rachel was fantastic and reassuring the whole way, all the staff were. When I was in theatre she kindly dressed my daughter and helped care for her, it was so important for me to know she wasn't alone and my family member with me was being supported. In theatre the staff were amazing they were so calm and Christi kept me so well distracted throughout. Rachel was there when I went into recovery and stayed with me for the rest of her shift. The staff where so kind and respectful ensuring I felt respected and dignified the entire time. I was still in recovery when Rachel's shift ended and I was then taken care of by Mellissa who was again fantastic and helped answer my many questions as I was preparing to go onto the ward. I genuinely can't thank all the staff but particularly those named enough. I am forever grateful for the care I received and though I will be a face to them as they care for so many throughout their career I will never forget them.
