"Unhelpful advice on weight loss"

I've had a very underactive thyroid for 20 years, taking thyroid tablets every day. I suffer with arthritis and a knee that swells 3x times bigger with fluid, causing a lot of pain.
I have tried to lose weight, always watching what I eat, and no change. I asked the nurse for some help with how to lose weight. Her exact words to me were: sit back from the table.
