"Trying in vain to make an appointment"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as the patient),

I've had a persistent cough for 9 or 10 weeks. History of cancer in my family. 59 years old. No Covid 19 symptoms, only cough. Been trying in vain to get through to my GP practice for weeks. On calling in an attempt to make an appointment to see my GP there is a screed of messages re. prescriptions, NHS for Covid etc.  I select option 2 as advised and the phone is constantly engaged, then times out.

There's actually a National Advertising Campaign ongoing regarding contacting your GP if you have a persistent cough. I just want a GP's opinion. Thanks.

Dear Skel21

Thank you very much for your feedback regarding your GP practice. I was very sorry to hear that you have been unable to obtain an appointment with your GP and that you have been unwell for a considerable period of time.

Please be advised that GP’s are independent contractors and are responsible for investigating and responding to any concerns a person may have about their service; they are not registered to respond directly to feedback through Care Opinion. I would therefore invite you to contact the Practice Manager if you would like a direct response about the service you experienced.

Alternatively you can also contact our Primary Care Patient Affairs Team by emailing them directly at: PatientAffairs.PrimaryCare@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk quoting care opinion reference 842372.

Best wishes.

Lesley
