"Maternity Unit - Extremely positive experience"

About: Maternity care (Ward 31) / Maternity care (Ward 31)

(as the patient),

I had the most amazing experience delivering my second child at the RAH midwife unit. I came into the unit in labour and was seen immediately, the bank staff Fiona was so welcoming and informative and made me feel very relaxed and comfortable.

Fiona finished her shift 1.5 hours later and Caroline took over my care, Caroline’s approach was so warm and caring, she talked me through all my options of pain relief and next steps based on how far into labour I was. Caroline also made me feel like the decision was mine at each step of the way which helped me feel more in control. (I needed this as my first labour was the opposite due to a last minute induction).

Once in my birthing room Caroline and Lynn both managed my late stages of labour within the birthing pool and they were superb at keeping me focused, positive and on track. Caroline and Lynn had a great tag team approach that made me feel that I was in really good hands. They made me laugh and lifted my spirits when labour was getting tough, I felt like I was being really well looked after the whole time. They also made my husband feel very relaxed and a real part of the delivery which he was very grateful for.

The whole experience was unbelievably positive and my little boy was delivered in a very calm and relaxed environment.

Caroline and Lynn make a great team and my experience could not have been any better, they are an absolute credit to their profession.

Thank you so much ladies, an amazing experience I will remember positively forever. Thank you for being so good at what you do and giving mummy’s like me a chance to experience labour in such a positive way.

Dear ElaineM12

Thank you for taking the time to post this lovely feedback. I am delighted to hear that you were kept informed and in control throughout your labour and this has led to you having such a positive experience. I am glad your husband felt a real part of the journey also as this is so important. I will share your post with the team here at RAH in particular Fiona, Caroline and Lynn and I know they will truly appreciate your kind words. I hope you are recovering well and enjoying this special time with your family.

Best wishes

Angela Duffy
