My daughter was referred to the fracture clinic due to braking her thumb. We did not get seen until 1 hour and 30 minutes after the time of her appointment. My daughter is only 5 so was very difficult for her to wait. I understand that it can get busy but then don’t book so many appointments in one day. The waiting from was very warm and no one was able to social distance due to being too many people waiting for their appointments.
When we were finally seen, the doctor didn’t even look at my daughters hand. He said that he wasn’t going to put a cast on her as she doesn’t have any bruising or not in much pain. Now my daughter’s thumb and hand was bandaged up which he didn’t even take off and if he would have given her the right care and attention and took it off, he would have seen that she had lots of bruising, swelling and was indeed in pain. He didn’t even do another X-ray just went but the one that was done 4 days prior to this appointment.
I insisted that he should give her a bit more care and give her thumb more support as she’s only 5 and enjoys playing at school. The doctor bluntly said to me that she should not play at all and needs to be cautious. I’m sorry but how can you tell any child that let alone a 5 year old. I think this level of care is appalling.
