"Endoscopy department"

About: Countess Of Chester Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as a service user),

I went in for a gastroscopy appointment on Monday I requested sedation and then said I would be willing to try without but have a really bad gag reflex so don't think I would be able to. Was told over and over I will be fine but they will sedate if I need it.

They never put a canula in just incase it felt like they were rushing to finish.

I was sprayed in my throat and already started gagging and he just kept going I then was told to lie down and this mouth piece shoved in my mouth no explanation into what was going on.

The man then was shining this bright light in my eyes that I can only assume was the camera light and then they told me to close my eyes. With this I felt the tube forced down my throat and people shouting swallow.

I know this might sound like I'm exaggerating this but I'm really not.

I was gagging and choking I couldn't breath I was smacking my hand against the bed to try get them to stop and I was held down and people shouting breathe your going to have to breathe but I couldn't stop wrenching to breath.

Finally the procedure was over my blood pressure was so low and heart rate that high they wheeled me through on the bed to recovery and just stated obs need monitoring but no sedation.

Everyone was staring and the nurse pulled the curtain round and said ill need a lift home. Still nothing disclosed. They called my dad to collect me and said he will be here in 20 mins try and relax now and uou can go ill walk you out.

I was ushered out the back door of hospital feeling light headed and confused. My dad commented what have they done to you and this is when I realised my face was swollen and I had burst all the blood vessels in my face and the whites of my eyes were red with blood. I was mortified and distressed that I went into a panic attack and told my dad to get me home to the kids. It's 3 days since and I look like I've been boxing with Mike tyson and lost big style.

I honestly feel violated and tortured.
