"Postnatal Care"

About: Community Midwifery / Craigavon & Banbridge

(as a service user),

I arrived home from hospital with my baby girl on 2nd April. My postnatal care began on 3rd April. This was my first baby so i did not know what postnatal care i would receive.

The Community Midwives  (based in Banbridge Health Centre) are due to visit on Day 1,3,5,7 and 10 however i had contact with them everyday- this could be a telephone call or a face to face visit.

I want to in particular thank Diane and Amanda, these were the two midwives that called with me most frequent. They were fantastic. An absolute credit to the Southern Trust.

Their compassion they provided for me and my baby was outstanding. Both Diane and Amanda truly cared for our needs.

I had a particularly hard journey with breastfeeding and they were so supportive and reassuring. There was a day were Amanda met me at the door and i was in tears, she listened to my concerns and said all the things i needed to hear as i was doubting my abilities as a first time Mum. Amanda stressed the importance of looking after myself- making sure i was eating well, sleeping when baby slept and to not be pressurising myself. As she said- a happy mum is a happy baby. These words couldn't be truer.

I can't thank Diane and Amanda enough for their encouragement and kindness in the first few weeks of this new journey of motherhood.

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter!!!

Thanks for taking the time to let us know about your care as I'm sure life with a new baby is busy. We appreciate your lovely comments and I assure you that these will be shared with Amanda and Diane. Take care remembering the midwives advice to look after yourself.

Thanks Paula Boyle
