"Contraceptive implant removal"

About: Sexual Health / Contraception Service

(as the patient),

Looking my implant removed to start trying to get pregnant but have been informed could take up to 6months to get a routine appt. I know getting pregnant isn't considered a priority or anything but 6months just seems like a awful long Time to wait for a simple thing as getting an implant removed.

Hi @disappointedMummy thank you for taking the time to share this. We appreciate all feedback at the Contraceptive Service.

At the moment, our waiting times for routine appointments have increased due to the effects from Covid 19 on the delivery of out-patient services. However, staff at our service are currently running extra sessions to help improve waiting times. We have also just recruited a new member of staff to our team and are in the process of recruiting a further member. Over the next 6 months it is hoped waiting times will significantly improve again.

However, following a review of our waiting list over the past number of weeks I am delighted to say we have fully reinstated our waiting list/partial booking system as of this week. As of next Monday administration staff will be informing patients our waiting time for a routine implant procedure will be around 12 weeks.

Hopefully we have your name on the waiting list and we will be in touch as soon as an appointment becomes available. However, please contact me via contraception@southerntrust.hscni.net if you still need your name adding to the waiting list or if you want to speak to me about any aspect of this.

Please also be assured, whilst having an implant removed is usually considered a routine appointment, we fully acknowledge this is extremely important to you as an individual and as a service fully committed to supporting women's contraceptive choices we recognize any frustration you may have experienced.
