After our 41 week scan showed low fluid levels we were scheduled for an induction at 41+2 (04/21). At 22:30 after spending 12 hours in triage with the cook balloons, we were moved through to the labour ward to break my waters. The total duration of birth was 19 hours and 19 minutes.
My husband and I cannot speak highly enough of the midwife team on the labour ward at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. We would like to give special thanks to Kyra, Lucy and Helen, our doctor (Lori) and our community midwife (Nik). It was a long two days in hospital but the team kept us informed, in good spirits, and generally were a joy to have around. We've never experienced people who are so committed to doing such a great job. The labour ward team ensured that what could have been a very stressful, high pressure, situation (forceps birth) was handled with care, and they ensured we felt comfortable the entire time.
Beyond our stay at the hospital we were so grateful to have a community midwife such as Nik. She is a breath of fresh air and I cannot thank her enough for everything she did for us. Nik's experience shows through her level / standard of care for her 'girls' and she left me feeling like I could tackle anything that comes next.
Again we would like to thank everyone involved in the birth of our baby boy, you are all tremendous people. The words here can't even do any justice to our gratitude for all that you do and have done for us.
