My son suddenly became unwell at home. On calling 999 told ambulance would not be available for at least over 2hrs! Even although symptoms deemed a likely medical emergency we were still unable to get an ambulance any quicker. As his condition worsened, again unable to get help from ambulance services. Thankfully meantime a friend was able to provide prompt transport to A&E. Once seen there, as suspected he required emergency surgery but then had to be moved by an emergency ambulance to another hospital that specialised in the time sensitive emergency surgical procedure that was required.
Not being able to get immediate help added undue distress to an already frightening experience and became a more serious health issue due to initial delay of receiving medical attention.
