My husband was diagnosed with bowel cancer. He was a private patient who was told he would have to be referred to the NHS. So he had his scans done privately on the NHS there was no continuity of appointment arranging. I had to personally ring round to get the two appointments. Once someone found out he was private his original appointment was cancelled and he was told someone else would need to arrange the appointment. Nobody contacted us so I had to chase it up. How come his insurance is paying for him to be seen privately and yet he is being treated worse than if he was on the NHS?
We are entitled to care under the nhs and we pay for private health insurance so he should not have been treated like this. He was told by his consultant and it was written on his letter that he would be discussed at an MDT mid April.
When we rang to find out information we where told that it is now in the next few days. Yet nobody has been in touch to tell us. I have constantly been phoning the cancer nursed but no answer and no returned call. The service so far is a disgrace.
To live someone with no results and no contact for three weeks could be crucial to his survival but that docent seem to matter to anyone.
"Very slow and stressful cancer diagnosis"
