"Hospital Transport"

About: Salisbury District Hospital Yeovil District Hospital

(as the patient),

I live in Gillingham, Dorset. Last year I was taken by ambulance during the night to Yeovil Hospital in Somerset with suspected kidney stones

The next morning I was discharged, I asked how I was going to get home about twenty miles away. I pointed out that I was a Carer for my husband who was alone at home. I was told I would have to find my own way home as there was no transport.

Luckily for me a friend rang to ask how I was and came and collected me. How do people manage who have no-one to help?

The hospital people in Gillingham are sent to is Salisbury Hospital 30 miles away. There is no hospital transport for us because Salisbury Hospital is in Wiltshire and Gillingham is in Dorset. There is no direct bus route to Salisbury so Pensioners cannot use their free bus pass. A taxi cost £85 for a return trip plus waiting time.
