I have given birth to 2 children, a couple of years apart in Warrington Hospital.
Whilst the experience of giving birth was okay despite the traumatic nature of the first, I am still upset to think about how awful the communal ward was each time post c-section.
As new mums we were woken up regularly, had our lights switched on when sleeping, were not permitted to close our curtains for privacy, would wait a long time for assistance if pressed the button for help and many of us were even told off for 'doing it wrong' with our new babies.
Leaving the ward took an excessive amount of time to be discharged and staff were very reluctant to give out painkillers (even paracetamol during the first few days after the c-section when in hospital) either during the stay or on discharge. It is really sad that I still hear of these same stories from friends who've been on the post-maternity ward at Warrington.
I always regret not speaking to a lady who came round doing an opinion survey at the time, but I was too upset at the time to speak up and didn't realise this treatment of new Mums wasn't okay, I actually believed that I must be doing it all wrong at the time.
