"A thank you for my care"

About: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Neurosurgery (Ward 64 – 66)

(as the patient),

In December 2020 I was diagnosed with a brain tumour. In January I was admitted to ward 66 Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Glasgow and on the next day I had my tumour surgically removed by Mr Grevas. I then spent a week under the care of the staff of ward 66.

I’m a retired police officer (2012) and before that was also was an art student at Glasgow School of Art for two years. I now paint and draw for pleasure. The care given to me as a patient was tremendous and as I thank you to all the staff and neurosurgeons who looked after me I am doing portrait drawings of the nursing staff and two full length figure paintings of the two neurosurgeons who removed my tumour.

Since leaving hospital I’ve been undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy at the Beatson which I complete in 2 days time. During this time I’ve completed both neurosurgeon paintings and so far 12 portrait drawings of my nurses. I still have 10 to do. Once completed hopefully before the end of April. I would like to present the drawings and paintings to the staff of ward 66, but do not know how to go about this. Can you help?

Dear foxtrotbs86,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post this lovely feedback about your care within the Neurosurgical department and the Beatson. It is clear that this has been a difficult time for you health wise and I am pleased to hear you will complete your treatment at the Beatson very soon.

It is very reassuring to read that you were well cared for as I know the neurosurgical nursing team strive to provide the very highest standard of care. They will be delighted with this feedback which I will share with them.

The paintings are a lovely gesture and we appreciate the time you have taken during your recovery to thank the team in this unique way.

Lynsay Creighton Lead Nurse for Neurosurgery would be keen to assist you with presenting these. She returns from leave next week and you can contact her either by phone on 0141 201 2845 or by email at Lynsay.Creighton@ggc.scot.nhs.uk

Thank you once again for taking the time to share this with us and I wish you well for your continued recovery.

Kind Regards

Elaine Burt
