"Birthing pools"

About: Inverurie Hospital / Midwifery

(as a service user),

I’m due my first baby in summer 2021 and was really hoping for a water birth at Inverurie maternity unit, however all the birth pools are still out of commission and have been since summer 2020. I was advised work would have commenced before now and they’d be back in service by May, however it’s now April and work still hasn’t started on allowing the pools to be used again. This is really disappointing as it limits options for pregnant women to have the birth and experience they desire.

Dear l1991

Thank you for getting in touch regarding the birthing pools in Inverurie. The current situation is that both birthing pools will be replaced. Unfortunately we do not have a time line for when this work will be complete. I'm sorry you were led to believe this would be completed by April.

As soon as we are aware the work will commence, we will inform you and all women who wish to use the pools.

In the meantime, I would encourage you to speak to your community midwife regarding your place of birth choices and options regarding other pools available throughout NHS Grampian.

Please accept my apologies that this has impacted on your birth choices within Inverurie Community Maternity Unit.
