"Birthing pools out of action"

About: Inverurie Hospital / Midwifery

(as the patient),

I am very disappointed to hear that the birthing pools in Inverurie are STILL not fixed. They have been out of action since July 2020. I have my heart set on a water birth because I missed out on having one with my first born. Instead of going to my nearest maternity unit just 10mins  away in Inverurie, I am now considering travelling 40mins to Peterhead maternity unit to get my water birth.

It's not acceptable and a down right shame that parents and parents-to-be are having to do this. Too many people have been let down by this issue and it must be addressed.

Dear dracoqb89

Thank you for getting in touch regarding the pools in Inverurie Community Maternity Unit. Please accept my apologies that your birth option's have been restricted due to both birthing pools requiring to be replaced.

I can assure you that NHS Grampian is addressing this issue. Unfortunately we have no agreed timeline yet for when the new pools will be ready and installed.

Please speak to your community midwife to discuss your place of birth options and alternative birthing pool options within NHS Grampian.
