"Alcohol abuse"

About: Change Grow Live Cambridgeshire / Cambridge City

(as a service user),

It started when I lost my job and home and found myself sofa surfing on friends and family sofas, I was living out of black bags and was desperately unhappy, I started drinking just to sleep so all my problems would go away of course it didn’t work. I knew I had a problem and needed to sort it out but felt ashamed but after a weekend of being constantly drunk I plucked up the courage to call my doctor, who put me in touch with the CGL, I called them and they were very understanding and supportive from the start, it was agreed that I would start to reduce the amount of alcohol I was drinking and I done ok to start but kept relapsing, and was then asked to leave my daughters home I fell apart! I rang Janice I honestly believe I wouldn’t be here now if I hadn’t she acted fast and was found a room to stay in by the next week. I reduced to two bottles of wine a day but was not eating properly and become quite ill and had a few seizures which scared me, again the CGL were there every step of the way I decided with jan that I wanted to go into rehab, this was taken out of my hands as I was rushed to hospital and started detox there I can’t say it was easy, I am now out of hospital and doing a lot better and have been offered a fantastic opportunity ( thanx once again to my angel Janice starling ) I can’t thank the CGL enough they are supportive, compassionate, understanding and no one points the finger. My biggest thanks go to jan and Marie for there constant hard work and always being there.

Hi MadMax65

Firstly thanks for such kind words. I know they will mean a lot to the staff you have mentioned. Your story will be such a difficult one for many to read but as you maybe aware it is not an unfamiliar one. One that started with a particular incident like losing your job. Then a spiralling effect with so many other things affected. But the powerful thing is how you have managed to work through your issues, get support and keep climbing out of the troubles you were in. Absolutely amazing. We all think Jan is amazing too by the way. I know that you are aware that you will still have some work to do but it really seems you are up to it and ready for the challenge. Keep getting the support you need, both within CGL and outside.

Well done
