About: Crosshouse Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as other),

I was referred to a colorectal surgeon in 2019. My appointment eventually came through and I had a clinic appointment with my surgeon in October 2020 (over a year from referral).

From this appointment they told me I needed a colonoscopy and EUA under general anaesthetic along with an anorectal manometry test. They also said I was to be referred to a specialist in Glasgow afterwards to discuss the possibility of sacral nerve stimulation surgery.
It is now March 2021 and I am now triggering for management to step in and have a meeting with me about my sickness absence. I can barely leave the house to to the unpredictability of my bowel. I am in pain and taking way more Imodium and buscopan than I should. I have also had bouts of bleeding from the bowel.
I therefore contacted my surgeons secretary to ask for help as my symptoms had worsened. They told me that neither my surgeon nor anyone else was available at the moment. So I have just been left.  Being a staff member in the NHS I have also contacted occupational health and all they could really do was suggest my manager to take me off night shifts until I get some help.

I also have a pre cancerous lesion that has changed and my surgeon wants to cut it out ..this will also be under general anaesthetic so when will I get that done? I have all sorts of other strange symptoms going on and I am starting to really worry. It is making me anxious and really unwell. I have no one to help me I don't know where else to try for help about this.

I struggle every day but I go to work and I have a FFP3 mask etc on for hours and hours when patients are having GA's. Why cant main theatres do the same? All I keep hearing is "my surgery isn't urgent" Well its diagnostic so how do you know if its urgent or not. I could have something really serious going on inside my bowel that's causing all these symptoms and my life is being ruined by it so to me it is very urgent.

Update posted by SCAH (other)

Since posting this story I have had my pre cancerous lesion removed just in time and I am grateful for that.

However, I am still waiting for my sigmoidoscopy and EUA under GA. My bowel problems are worse than ever and I now have upper GI symptoms that are severe. I was told by my consultant's secretary that only cancer patients are getting scopes and they are not running lists at the moment. I don't believe this is true as I know people who have less severe symptoms than me that have been scoped in the last two weeks.

I have some red flag symptoms and I am not sure why I am being told this? I feel as if I'm being ignored. I need to know what is causing my whole GI tract (upper and lower) to be so inflamed. I can hardly eat and I am in pain every day, I have had chronic acid reflux for 8 weeks now which omeprazole is not helping, I am chewing rennies all day and taking Gaviscon and nothing stops it. I feel sick every day, I have rectal bleeding and I can spend all day or all night sitting in the bathroom. It has now been over 2 years since I was first referred can someone please help me?
