"My brothers care."

About: University Hospital Of North Durham / Accident and emergency University Hospital Of North Durham / Older people's healthcare

(as a service user),

My brother was admitted to Durham University Hospital towards the end of March 2021 and discharged 2 days later.

Whilst in A and E I explained to one of the nurses all of the things which are wrong with my brother. He was admitted with a seizure but has numerous other things wrong one of which is dementia, I explained that he must not be let out unless I pick him up as he constantly gets lost and we no longer give him money.

He was admitted to AMU then onto Ward 5, whilst in hospital my brother was constantly getting lost he has always been told to ring me then I will direct him back.

No one contacted me from the ward my brother was being discharged, my brother told me. It feels like no none had read his notes as he had told them his dozet box was at home and he lived a very independent life all of which is not true.

When I collected him I asked as senior member of staff where his medication was they were insistent that it was at home I explained you believed a man with dementia & they responded by telling me he can find his way out for a cigarette.

I was furious at this point, if staff can not respond in a professional manner I suggest they find a new profession. I had to take my brother home then come back to collect a prescription to get my brother through the weekend.
