"Amazing care after my baby boy fell from the bedroom window"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Accident & Emergency Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Paediatrics Major Trauma team

(as a parent/guardian),

In mid-March my 18-month-old baby boy fell from our bedroom window 17 feet.

The ambulance came within 4 mins and the 2 paramedics were great. We went straight to the children's hospital and were met by the trauma team. They were amazing with my son, me and my husband. He was checked from top to bottom, x-rayed, CT scanned and luckily he only had a bruise to his lung and some bruising to his back. It's a miracle.

Fiona, Sharon, Mark and Elizabeth are the only names I remember. I didn't get all the staff's names but they were all fantastic. Even the ladies from the ambulance service waited to find out how my boy was. I can't thank all of them enough.

We were then admitted and taken to ward 3b where my son was checked on throughout the night and day and happily discharged the following night. The student nurses especially Ciara were great and the nurses and doctors.

We hope to not have to visit again anytime soon, but if we have to it would be here we would want to go to.

Dear Csliha2002,

What an absolute fright you and your husband must have had (I shuddered reading your story), your poor wee boy!

It is heart-warming to hear that our Major Trauma Team at RHC responded so quickly to your son's care needs and were able to assess he was thankfully okay, albeit bumped and bruised. Our team members will be so delighted to hear your praise for them, we will also pass on our thanks to them.

Our Ward 3B team will also be so thrilled with your feedback and we will ensure Ciara is given a copy of your comments for her student file, alongside our own senior managers personal thanks.

Csliha2002, I'd really like to thank you for taking the time to provide us with your comments. Hearing that your wee boy is none the worse for his experience really does lift all our spirits immensely and we are so grateful to you for letting us know he's okay. Whilst we also hope he doesn't need to visit us in a professional capacity anytime soon (!) he's always welcome back (when safe to do so) to say hi to the team!

Wishing you and your family all the very best

Take care

Coral
