I had a planned c-section at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital on 27th January 2021 due to having a breech baby. The team, led by Dr. Chris, was fantastic. From start to finish, I felt that the care was fantastic and I was in practiced, safe, confident hands.
I would like to thank a few people in particular. Fiona, the anaesthesiologist, listened to the concerns and requests I had (placement of my cannula, sensitivities due to urticaria pigmentosa, not having the monitor pads on my chest) and accommodated as best possible. During the procedure, she was reassuring and kept me informed of what was happening. When I became nauseous and sick, she responded professionally and looked after me very efficiently and effectively. I felt very reassured by her presence.
All the midwives were absolute professionals. One (Linda?) looked after me while the spinal was being administered and kept me steady. She also encouraged me throughout the surgery and calmed my nerves. While my partner and son were being looked after, a midwife also held the curtain aside so I could see and narrated what was happening so I didn't feel left out. Again, when I became sick, they looked after me and I felt very cared for.
I had heard a lot of negative accounts of c-sections and was so nervous for the procedure, but the team was incredible and took excellent care of me and my baby. I will be forever grateful to them for ensuring my son entered the world safely, and in a way that let me recover well too.
