Although the care which I received when I had surgery in York Hospitality some years ago was exemplary to the extent that I wrote to you chief executive with thanks to the team which looked after me, there was one matter with which I was very unhappy and that was the lack of confidentiality.
On the occasion that my husband and son visited together one of the nurses embarrassingly took me to task over the matter of the amount that I has drunk one night leading to remarks made regarding my urinary matters and when it had been decided that I was to have more time in hospital, it was my husband who was informed, rather than me, both of these things constituted a breach of confidentiality and were unacceptable.
I decided at the time not to make an issue of it so as not to dilute the effect of my letter of thanks, but to make contact at a later date; time has passed and a conversation has led me to write to you now in the hope that my remarks will be taken on board and other patients may benefit as it is really not good enough when a patient is well enough to receive communication regarding matters relating to them that information is passed to or in the presence of someone else.
"Patient confidentiality"
