"Promoting contact with loved one despite confidentiality issues"

About: Brand Street Resource Centre Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow

(as a relative),

My loved one has been in a Glasgow hospital for the past half a year.  They do not want family to be involved in medical decisions but I feel that at times staff have extended this to include a ban on non-confidential information which makes contact and continued help from family difficult.

I would like staff to remember (and acknowledge) that family are and have been a consistent positive presence in this person’s life despite her mental and now physical  illness . Both they and services continue to ask the family to help, especially with day to day needs

Ideally I would like services to reassure the family that they will revisit and speak to our loved one from time to time in an effort to rebuild relationship with family.

Dear Fish and Whistle

I can only imagine how difficult it must be having a loved one in hospital for 6 months, especially during the pandemic.

From your post I am unsure which hospital your loved one is in, but if you would like to contact us at Patientexperience@ggc.scot.nhs.uk with more information we can share your concerns with the service and see if we can help.

Many thanks

Nicole
