My first time visiting The Ferns Medical Practice wasn't the best. I've have just left my hometown to go university and I have given up a lot to come to Farnham. So when I visited the surgery to book an appointment for my eczema, the receptionist was very rude and came across quite stand-offish. I thought perhaps maybe they were having a bad day. However, I've worked in customer services for a couple of years now and I know that despite how bad of a day I'm having, I still have to put on a friendly face, as that's what the customers are expecting. I was expecting to be treated in a friendly, caring manner, especially, considering visiting the GP is not the most enjoyably place to visit. It can bring up alot of anxiety.
I left that day feeling rather perplexed, as, I wasn't sure if the way this person had treated me was a one off, due to having a bad day. Or if they had made generalised assumptions about me and decided to treat me in a degrading manner. I couldn't answer that. But I left that day feeling as though they didn't want me there.
I came back in a few days later for the appointment that I had booked and collected my prescription as normal. Since that first initial experience with the receptionist, honestly, I haven't been back since.
"Not the best experience "
