"Gp car parking"

About: General practices in Fife

(as a service user),

The gp surgery on  whytemans brae has spaces specifically for patients. This morning I saw staff from the hospital parking in those spaces and walking over to the vhk. I know they were staff as they were wearing scrubs or wearing their nhs badge around their neck. I have relatives at that practice undergoing investigations which is stressful enough but they are having to leave very early for appointments as they know parking is going to be an issue. This is not a new issue but one that gets managed for a while with the barrier down etc but this always stops and the problem returns. I would appreciate if a longer term solution could be found.

Response on behalf of Neil McCormick, Director of Estates, NHS Fife

Dear Blusky

Firstly, please accept an apology for the delay in responding.

I am sorry that you have experienced this issue. The 'Patient Only' spaces at the GP Surgery are checked as often as we can, given the restrictions we are all currently operating under. Our Policies clearly state that when vehicles have been identified as belonging to staff their Line Managers are informed and are asked to take appropriate action.

We are aware that the barrier has not been in use for several years as previous methods of operation proved to be unworkable. We have also recently provided a number of new car parking spaces on and around the Victoria Hospital site. NHS Fife will, of course, continue to monitor and review their operational policies to see whether any new solutions could improve the situation
