"Debilitating knee pain ..."

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a relative),

The debilitating, severe knee pain had made my wife almost completely immobile .She was no longer able to function normally , daily household tasks were impossible.

It had got so bad I had to buy my wife a wheelchair and other aids .

The quality of life had deteriorated to such an extent she was not interested in the normal things she has previously enjoyed.

We were referred to a specialist in the hope he could do something about the debilitating pain and immobility.

We saw a consultant, Mr Heaton, who immediately put my wife at ease .

Listened to her issues , arranged tests and a follow up consultation.

He arranged for my wife to have treatment on her knees , explained exactly what the procedure was , the benefits and potential side effects.

The appointment arrived in a short time with all comprehensive information we needed .

The staff on the ward were excellent, very professional, caring and considerate.

She was made to feel cared for and that no effort was being spared to keep her safe particularly in relation to COVID .

A special thanks to Steph and Michelle to name just a few.

As I could not accompany my wife ,I was kept informed and had a call immediately after her procedure to reassure me all had gone well.

My wife has already started to feel better as the pain has reduced, she is slowly improving her mobility and feels in a better place mentally.

This is an example of the NHS and its staff at their very best .
