"My health"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Monklands / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I would like to pass on my heartfelt thanks to the following professionals. I took unwell  beginning of March, vomiting and extremely dizzy in bed and standing, however things got slightly better an worse again. I decided I would call NHS 24 one evening a few nights later, to which the call handler who answered was most professional and reassuring. The reason I'm telling my story is that I had these symptoms in in 2012 the week before I suffered a pulmonary embolism  and was misdiagnosed.

I expressed my concerns to this professional and in turn she repeated everything I had said and had written everything down. This professional told me she would get someone to speak with me, which I think was a nurse who went over things again, leading on from that I then spoke with a nurse practitioner called Muriel,  i think that was her name. These professionals were truly what their name suggests caring, thorough, reassuring, made you feel safe and truly listened in what you were saying and feeling regarding your physical and mental well being.

later that evening I had a paramedic call me and this professional was the exact same totally committed to your health and safety of getting you attended to with such guidance and reassurance.

Having given my past experience with doctors in 2012 & 2014 when I suffered another P E and initial wasn't believed by the doctor in attendance. This time I met Dr Forbes. I found Dr Forbes to be the exact same as these other professionals listening to my anxieties and concerns regarding my health. I will say Dr Forbes had a hard job convincing me of what my diagnoses was,  as when we put our life into professionals hands we think we are safe and they know what they are doing, but sadly this is not always the case.

Thank you so so much to each and everyone of you help, expertise and guidance and I am improving each day.

Dear Clinical Support,

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion. It sounds as though you've been through a difficult time over the past few years with your health, and I hope you are now recovering well.

I fully understand your concerns given your past experiences in 2012 and 2014, and I was pleased to read that you were looked after so well by the teams at NHS 24, the Scottish Ambulance Service, and NHS Lanarkshire. It sounds as though the staff you dealt with from NHS 24, the SAS, and NHS Lanarkshire were able to alleviate your fears and provide you with the care you needed at the time of your illness.

We love to receive feedback such as yours, and I would be delighted to share it with the staff who were responsible for your care at NHS 24. To help me do this, would you please contact me at patient.experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk and provide us with your details, and the approximate time and date of your call/s to the service? This will help me locate the staff involved and share your feedback with them. I would be grateful if you would share your Care Opinion username in any email correspondence with us, as this will allow us to link to this story.

After all that you have been through, I hope you are recovering well. I would like to thank you again for sharing your story with us.

I very much look forward to hearing from you.

Take care,

Andrew
