My GP referred my boyfriend to the Community Mental Health Team in Glasgow (GG&C) last November. The referral described his suicidal ideation, with plan and intent. It also described his low mood, for which he has been prescribed anti-depressants. His referral was discussed at their allocation meeting in December, and rejected because he "appears to be functioning well". They recommended he be referred to Lifelink.
So he self-referred to Lifelink, and was told his problems were too complex for them to offer help.
Last night, he disappeared and was found by police on a bridge. This is the second time on that same bridge. He recognises that he needs support and psychological intervention.
How can it be that mental health services can at the same time tell him that he is both too complex and not complex enough? This is simply unacceptable. There are clear risk factors, and to dismiss the GP's referral without any form of assessment is not justifiable in such circumstances.
