"Daughter petrified of syringes"

Daughter with severe learning difficulties petrified of syringes refusing to take Coronavirus injection.

Our 34 year old daughter who has underlying health issues and severe learning difficulties related to autism has not surprisingly constantly refused to accept the Coronavius vaccine jab. We have been worried about this situation and sought assistance from our Regency Health centre GP in Newtownards. 

Doctor Burnham came to our rescue.  

Not only did she make every effort to alleviate our concerns she took time from her very busy schedule and came to our home to access the situation and made an attempt to give our daughter the 1st dose of the vaccine. Despite Dr. Burnhams best efforts it was not to be and our daughter resisted having the vaccine.  

Not deterred by this very challenging situation Dr. Burnham took the time to discuss a way forward and put into place a very lane of action, knowing that time was of the essence for our daughter to have this vaccine ASAP. One week later Dr. Burnham returned to our home and the plan agreed was put into effect.  With perfect timing, full consideration of our daughters needs and a wonderful caring and compassionate attitude our daughter this morning, to our relief, received her first vaccine dose. 

I would like to place on record my sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Burnham for her professional, caring attitude and assistance, regarding what has been a very stressful time for our family. It’s great to see a GP who is prepared to go the extra mile for their patients especially one like our daughter with so many challenging intellectual and health issues.  

We can now look forward to our daughter receiving her second Coronavirus vaccine dose in 9 weeks with somewhat less concern and trepidation!
