"Still upset about birth"

About: St George's Hospital (Tooting) (London)

I have birth during the pandemic. I understand that due to restrictions my partner was not allowed in until a certain point, but in his absence I was left alone in active labour, telling the midwives and needing to push to be treated terribly and told off - because there were no rooms and this was all happening in triage! They finally let my partner in a few mins before our son was born but only because I pushed for this - there reasoning was until I was in a delivery room he was not allowed in. Not really my fault when I was in active labour and all the rooms were full. It was clear the midwife was angry at me for giving birth in the triage room and was not at all supportive during the birth and I was constantly yelled at the push harder and hurry up. I felt so unsupported and every time I think back to the birth I am so upset I went through that. Very sad because the antenatal care I reviewed was great - I just wish those midwives were at the birth!

Dear Madam,

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback.

We are really very sorry to hear of your experience during labour and delivery; this is not the standard of compassionate care we expect. Please contact our Consultant Midwife Chelone Lee-Wo chelone.lee-wo@stgeorges.nhs.uk who is looking forward to discussing this further with you. It is good to hear that your experience during the antenatal period was so positive, we will ensure this is feedback to the antenatal teams.

Kind Regards

Elaine Bucknor
