"Fibromyalgia"

About: Lanarkshire Community Services / Occupational Therapy

(as the patient),

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 3 years ago. The doctors have done their best to help me with medication but I was losing a lot of time off work. Before I was diagnosed I worked 7 days a week and was always busy doing something and helping others. But my life had changed so much in the 3 years since I was diagnosed. All I was doing was sleeping and working, only managing to work monday till friday and it was a struggle. Then I was referred to an Occupational Therapist on October 2020. What a diffrence to my life that has made. Even just havin someone to talk to and beleive in your pain, made a big difference. I have now got a diffrent outlook on life and being able to manage my pain a bit better. I still have appointments with my OT every week and she is great at helping me manage my pain and listening to me. I was off work for 12 weeks and she organised a return to work on shorter hours and gradually building it back up to 5 days. This would never have happened if I didn't have my OT as I have worked in my job for 37 years and I am the 1st person to work these hours through an OT. Without her I would be in a much darker place and In a lot more pain and just getting by with my life. She has made a massive difference to my life now and I am so grateful that she's there for me and still is.

Dear Nelli2018,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your story and how you feel that working with the Occupational therapist has made such a difference to your life.

Dealing with Pain every day is a very difficult thing and trying to continue with work and normal daily life activities as well. I am not sure whether you have been working with one of the Rheumatology or GP Occupatiobal therapists, but will make sure your comments are shared.

I hope that you continue to make postive changes and are able to increase your levels of activity and working times,

kind regards

Fiona
