"A good introduction"

About: Community Forensic Services / Nottinghamshire MBT Service Forensic mental health / Low secure services

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I have recently ended the MBTi group at the Mandala centre. It was a good introduction to working and speaking in a group and it was nice to have an objective to work toward. I did the group face to face but had telephone 1:1s which were more of a struggle but this was not to do with the centre of the facilitators but COVID restrictions.

If I could change anything it would be to have bean bags available.

Thank you for this feedback, it's good to hear that the introduction to MBT was good and hopefully has given you a good foundation for a move into therapy if this is your next step.

Thank you also for your patience with some of the changes we've had to make in response to COVID. As I'm sure you can appreciate, moving from face to face contacts in order to reduce footfall in the building has meant we have had to adapt they way we do things (smaller face to face groups, online groups, video 1:1s/telephone 1:1s) and I think as a service we are learning a lot!

I would be keen to hear more about your request for bean bags in the room as we are regularly reviewing our treatment/therapy spaces. I am aware that we have to consider the needs of people with a range of different needs so it's always good to develop our understand this more.

Best wishes, Louisa

After a review in the service, we have agreed to continue with the current seating options (chairs) as we have sought feedback and found that bean bags are not suitable for meeting the physical health needs of the range of service users accessing the service.

In terms of telephone contacts, we continue to offer face to face contacts as a standard but we are able to be flexible to support reduced footfall in the building/managing COVID restrictions. We have spoken to the team and reminded clinicians to have a discussion of preferences for contact with service users and ensure this is regularly reviewed to ensure it continues to meet individual needs were we can.

Best wishes, Louisa
