"Weight loss/ damaged skin"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Plastic Surgery & Burns (wards 45, 47, 48 & 49) New Stobhill Hospital / Breast Clinic

(as a service user),

My late teenage years I was categorised as obese, I decided to completely change my lifestyle. Exercised religiously daily, going from a size 20/22 to a size 10/12. This was a massive achievement however with all the extra weight came the excess skin. At the age of 23 I have a very limited social life and no self worth due to the damage weight loss has caused to my breast, as you can imagine going from a size 20 > 10. I have tried every trick in the hook every exercise to the extent I have now managed the middle and tissue in my breast. Which was confirmed by a doctor from the breast clinic within Stophill. I have been going continuously back and forth to my gp in relation to this issue, I was referred to plastic surgery team by my GP and in the response I was advised I would only be eligible for breast surgery if I had suffered breast cancer - this response is false information, this is not the case, many people get the surgery I require from weight loss by the plastic surgery team provided by the nhs.

From this conclusion I now feel I have received task centred approach care. Very poor standard of care.

Dear GRI/ GP,

Thanks for getting in touch and I am sorry that you are feeling the level of clinical care planning and follow up through the plastic surgery team has not met your expectations.

It is not clear if you have discussed the advice given from your plastic surgery consultation with your GP with regard to treatment planning.

I am unable to provide a more detailed response from the details given however if you remain dissatisfied after speaking with your GP, if you could contact our complaints liaison team and provide more details, we can better investigate your concerns.

Best wishes

John
