"My nephew's recent hospital visit"

My nephew attended A & E recently. He rang me distressed, as he had ASD and he was taken into a room, then moved another twice.     He thought the staff had forgotten about him and he was highly anxious that he didn't know what was happening. I told him I would ring A & E and speak to someone.

A doctor answered the phone and I explained how and why my nephew was distressed and could someone go to him and provide some explanation and support. The doctor was amazing he said he would be looking after his care and he would go straight away and check on him. once the staff knew that he had additional needs they kept him informed of everything and made sure his visit was as short as possible. The treatment he received made what could have been a bad experience a really good one. I would like to thank the doctor and medical team for a great job.

My name is Linsey Sheerin, I am the Service Manager of the Emergency Department at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Thank you for taking the time to share your nephews experience on Care Opinion. I am saddened to read that the initial part of your nephews journey was distressing and that he felt abandoned. Despite this, thank you for sharing lovely comments regarding the doctor who answered the phone and attended to him, I will ensure that your comments are shared with the team.
