"Blood Tests"

About: General practices in Dumfries and Galloway

(as the patient),

I had some blood tests done in Stranraer because I have been having IVF treatment in Glasgow and due to Covid we felt it best the blood tests were done locally to me rather than travel to Glasgow to have them done.

So after calls and letters etc between Glasgow and Stranraer they arranged for this to be done.

I went in in November and had the blood taken.  I got a call from Stranraer to be told it was stated the test couldn't be carried out due to insufficient information received by the Lab.......even though Glasgow had given them the details over the phone and a form had been filled in.  I was told I would need to go back in for more bloods to be taken.

I attended for these bloods on 4th December.  When I got to my appointment some calls were made and it turned out they did not need more blood afterall as they had frozen my sample.  They were happy to now carry out the test!!

I received a call from Glasgow end of December to discuss my IVF and it was suggested I should have bloods done.  I advised Stranraer had done them and when.  She was able to access these results and it stated "insufficient information received".  As you can imagine I was not impressed.  However once she was able to speak with someone she got the proper results.  They just hadn't been passed to me or Glasgow!!

However, there was something they didn't like that showed up in my bloods so wanted the tests repeated.  Glasgow also decided while I was having more blood taken they would request a different test to be done.  The results of this particular test would take 2 months to come back.

I have been on tenterhooks wanting to know that a) the issue found the first time was nothing to worry about and b) the results for the sake of the IVF.  I just want to know if I can carry on with treatment or if I just can't have kids.

I get a call today 1st March to say they have insufficient blood to carry out the tests.  Excuse me??  Why 2 months to realise this?  They took 4 tubes of blood from me to make sure there was enough blood.  I am to have more blood taken in 2 days time.

So that's another 2 months to wait from those bloods being taken.

I'm really not happy about this.  I am so worked up and just don't understand why this keeps happening?!!
