I was sent to the SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care) ward yesterday following a trip to A&E. I was told to be there for 10am. Right from checking in I felt I was in good hands. Firstly the Receptionist who checked me in took me into the ward and allocated me a “chair” which was C4 and was my home for the next 10 hours! The HCA came and did my BP and did a covid swab. Then I saw a Doctor who explained what treatment he felt I needed and explained this would take around 4 hrs to complete. The HCA came back and inserted a cannula. I was then commenced on IV treatment and during that time I was looked after and offered tea and sandwiches. After the IV fluids had finished I was told I needed a CT scan and the same HCA accompanied me and waited for me. Then I needed a lumbar puncture. The Doctor explained everything at each stage. Thankfully my results were clear and after 10 long hours I was able to go home. I thanked the HCA in person as she was so lovely, took time to chat with me through the day and kept me topped up with cups of tea! Yes I know you could say that is part of her job but I felt very well cared for and made to feel at ease. All of the team on that ward were wonderful and I wish I could name them on here to say thanks but I can’t! Suffice to say the Doctor, the Staff Nurse on duty that day, the HCA and the Receptionist who checked me in were fantastic and I very much appreciate all the help I was given. I am now home recovering but felt compelled in these difficult times to leave a shining review for NHS staff that work extremely hard every day.
I too work for the NHS and hope that Patients feel I help them as much as I was helped yesterday! I certainly strive to!
