I was recently an in-patient in University Hospital Haimyres with Mr Saldana as the consultant leading a colorectal team of both Drs/ Specialist Nurses. I would wish to thank all this team involved in both pre/ post operative for their expertise.
I would mention Mr Saldana in particular as being most professional but able to impart in a calm, reassuring manner the surgery involved, likely outcomes but also possible outcomes which may not be so good, all this in a direct but also empathetic way. This method of delivery left me feeling reassured and confident in what was fairly major surgery. In all a first class bedside manner which I hope all junior staff training under his guidance learn to emulate. I would also add that he was happy to take time to talk to next of kin by phone very much appreciated in these difficult times with no visiting permitted.
On the ward staff I would single out 2 Staff for their outstanding care, expertise and attention when I needed it most after developing a most uncomfortable complication. The staff in question are Alison and Fiona who were on night duty on 14/02 in Ward 5. Thank you girls for your prompt recognition of the problem and subsequent expertise in dealing with the procedure necessary to alleviate it.
On the downside I was dismayed to see the amount of time senior staff are required to be embroiled in computer work. How can it be that at least half of their shift is taken up with what I can only imagine is a bureaucratic nightmare? This is to the detriment of the patients and junior staff who could and should be adding to their skill set continuously.
On an eco note, utter horror that medications are delivered to patients in rather dinky little plastic containers which are NOT recycled! What cost to health boards and the environment. This urgently needs addressed.
