"Absolutely outstanding care"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

We visited today in order for my 13 year old daughter to receive a n NM Renogram.

My daughter has a learning disability and also suffers terribly with anxiety especially when attending medical appointments and she also has a fear of needles. 

The receptionist was very polite and efficient who booked us in.

We were then called through by Bev one of the nurses. She immediately picked up on my daughter's anxiety and very quickly assured her that we would talk about the procedure and answer any of her questions before attempting any interventions.

Bev listened carefully to all of my daughters anxieties and step by step told her how they would manage each one of those every time checking that my daughter fully understood what was happening. Bev also included myself fully in the conversation. After waiting for the numbing cream to take effect the wonderful Bev then called us back in and with her colleague Noel they worked their magic in distracting my daughter whilst Bev sited her Cannula. This was done so efficiently that my daughter hardly noticed that it had gone in!!

We were then greeted by Mary ( I do hope that I have got the names correct!!) who took us through for the scan. Once again I could not fault the way in which my daughter was cared for. The scan itself was faultless with great care taken to ensure that my daughter was comfortable and as relaxed as possible throughout. 

Bev then met us once the scan was finished and quickly whisked us back in to a side room in order to remove the cannula taking great care .

The whole experience from beginning to end was absolutely outstanding care and has provided my daughter with a positive experience that she can build upon her confidence with. 

I cannot thank the staff enough for their kindness and understanding.
